| (Department of Physical Education，Zhoukou Normal Institute，Zhoukou 466001，China) Abstract: Basing his study subject on the 39th World Gymnastics Championship, the author made this study for the purpose of providing a reference for establishing the strategy for medal competition in Beijing Olympic Games 2008. China is doing better than other countries in terms of the study of and adaptation to the new rules for gymnas-tics scoring. The advantage in our traditional advantageous events is no longer significant, while we are taking a quantum leap in our disadvantageous events. Vaulting horse performance, especially the grade A score, will be come a critical element in deciding the winners of the team event and all-round event. The author proposed that the strat-egy for medal competition in the Olympic Games should be implemented separately on the men’s and women’s teams: The targets for wining a gold medal should be set in the order of importance of team event, all-round event and individual event for the men’s team, and in the order of importance of individual event, team event and all-round event for the women’s team.
