(The Olympic Studies Centre,Beijing Sport University,Beijing 100084,China) Abstract: Nationalistic thoughts originated from Western Europe have profoundly affected the Olympic movement, and a commensally dependent relation always exists in the historical course of interactive evolution of both. The “destruction” and “construction” of the Olympic movement by nationalism coexist; nationalism is not only the po-litical foundation that constitutes the participation of nations and countries in the Olympic movement, but also the intervening power that impacts the Olympic movement. In the age of globalization, the Olympic movement will still have to deal with the modern transition of nationalism in order to realize its ideal of peaceful internationalism. The Chinese culture that bases its ideal on “globalism” will inevitably carry its due historical mission in the process of resolving Olympic dilemma. |
