| (College of Physical Education,Nanjing Normal University,Nanjing 210097，China) Abstract:Through survey and analysis,the author revealed that significant changes have occurred to the overall relatively comfortable living standards and the status of rural sports development in the background of comprehensively constructing a society with relatively comfortable living standards,and that rural sport will become a key job in mass sport in China in the new period. The author made the following discoveries in his study: Various farmers not only need sport,but also love sports activities with local features; although rural economy is relatively falling behind,rural areas are also provided with some necessary conditions for development which can be utilized. For developing rural sport,vast rural areas should be focused on, but it is not necessary to base the key point on small towns, and the government should undertake the major responsibility for developing rural sport.
