For the related issues, this paper will analyze the concepts of “unit teaching” and “physical education unit teaching”, the unique significance of large-unit physical education teaching to physical education teaching, and the unit levels, the length of large-unit physical education teaching, the determinants of the size of physical education teaching units, the types of large-unit physical education teaching, and the content not suitable for large-unit physical education teaching are discussed. This paper points out that the general large-unit physical education teaching is not enough to truly achieve the goal of basically achieving proficiency in more than one sport skill for young people in the plan outline of “Healthy China 2030”. The teaching model of the "teaching well, practice diligently, play regularly" teaching reform task is optional specialized physical education teaching, which belongs to the super-large unit of sports non-granted instruction teaching.
